Time to say Hello

I have been lurking for a while and absorbing all the info that I can from this great site. I have been visiting PV for three years now. I try to make it out at least 4 times a year and the group I go with tends to stay at or near the Minietta mine and once at the World Beater cabin. Next month we are going to do the South Park loop for the first time. I am both excited and nervous at the same time.

So is there a secret handshake that I need to know if I happen to meet any of you out on the trails  ?

Mike

Welcome, Mike to the board!

We hope you find some valuable information and hopefully contribute your own experiences as well. Be sure to read the forum guidelines in this section. We are a friendly group, and enjoy sharing the things we all have in common, our love of the desert.

As far as secret handshakes, we don't tend to have one. Some of us are old enough that we couldn't remember it anyway. Memorize our pictures, remember our rigs, or look for PanamintValley.com stickers in our windows or on our foreheads 8) Just watch out for people in Blue Rubicon Jeeps!

I would head UP South Park and then down Pleasant for your first time.. It is a lot less scary that way.. :beerchug:

I just did the loop a few days ago and its in good shape.. South Park Canyon is a little chewed up but that just makes it interesting..

Thanks B-Spec,

The trail boss (my dad) will determine the route on this one. Last time we tried the loop it was just three people in my H3. We went up Pleasant Canyon to the rangers cabin (I don't know the correct name) and had lunch.

After that I'm not sure if we went the right way. We went to the right of the cabin and headed up a steep rocky road that had a pretty big drop off to the right. Since we were only in one car and we were not sure if we were going the right way I backed down the mountain until there was enough room to turn around. This time there will be more guys with hopped up Jeeps and we will have a map.

Does it sound like we were on the right road and do you think an H3 with 33" tires and rear locker can make the route?

Ya you were on the right road.. You shouldn't have any problem making the loop with that Vehicle..

Oh, it's just something that comes up at every meeting between Rubiblue and David_Bricker ... Rubi provides the "whine" to go with David's Cajun barbecue. Everything that David barbecues is blackened. And so is anything within a 30' perimeter of the barbecue ...
