Another newbie.
Looks like a nice bunch around here!!!
My name is Rob. I prefer solo trips on my various motorcycles. I've got some reports I'll show you guys that I've posted on another site...my infatuation with the desert seems lost on most...
You 4x4'ers might even motivate me to put my old Willys wagon together.
I first found the PV and DV in '05 after spending most of my life exploring the backcountry of Oregon. I'm hooked and had planned a yearly trip to the area, but find myself visiting 3-4 times a year now.

Yup! I can vouch for Unclebarry's use of his Willy's off road.uncleBarry wrote:I have an old Willys pick up that I use in the back country.
Here's Barry slithering and sliding down the very steep and decomposed slate slope into Boiler Canyon atop the Inyo Range, north of the Saline Valley salt tramway summit station and the ghost town of Cerro Gordo. Way to go, Barry!

Thanks.
Yeah, I've seen that Willys of Barry's on various websites. I've spent days looking for a desert forum that actually has folks posting and this must be the place!!!

Hi Rob,
So what region do you live in now days? (You see, I need to spend more time east of the Cascades instead of with this great group of folks lol) They have altered my yearly plans!
Good to have you on.

Thanks for the welcome, Kit!!!
Hey Doug, I live south of Sacramento in Elk Grove. We moved down here at the end of 2000 for better jobs and better pay. It's been a good move and Oregon is still close enough to visit. My wife and I rode our big Buell up to Crater Lake this summer. I'm 2 hours from Hwy 1, 30 minutes to the Sierra's and 6 hours to DV...perfect spot for me. Think I could convince the wife to move to Darwin?
Thanks for the nice welcome!!

You are in a good geographical location, that's for sure. I'm definitely not the furthest one out of DV or PV, but it can be quite a drive sometimes.
If we could get Google Earth to "artificially" plant some more amenities in Darwin, it might become quite the destination- lol.
